Wanda Sykes show premiers on Fox (video)

Comedian Wanda Sykes' new talk show premiered on Fox Saturday night at 11pm and I gotta tell it you it's a welcome relief from the usual hit or miss Saturday Night Live. "The Wanda Sykes Show" is not your usual talk show format. It's more an extension on her stand up act, with the addition of comedy sketches and a few cast members, most notably announcer Keith Robinson and drag queen Portia. These two particular cast members allow Sykes to address both Africa-American and LGBT comedy with added credibility within those communities, but that may not be enough to get her over the top with mainstream (white-hetero) audiences the way Rosie and Ellen have done.

That being said, if Rosie is the lesbian you want to blow your diet with on Thanksgiving (if only for the deserts) and Ellen is the girl you want to bring home to Mom, then Wanda is who you want to spend Happy Hour with, even though you know it could end up with a 911 call.

Will the show last? Probably not. I loved her short-lived sitcom "Wanda", but Sykes is at her best as a stand-up and as the wise-cracking sidekick in projects like "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Monster-in-Law". I hope I'm wrong.

In this clip, Wanda talks about how to dispose of her sex toys in an environmentally-friendly way.
