New Wave Wednesday: Did You See Me Coming?", by Pet Shop Boys (Music Video)

Pet Shop Boys live in concert on October 13, 2...Image via WikipediaOkay, it's only two years old, but I really love this song from the British duo whose roots go all the way back to the first days of the New Wave music movement. All these years later, they've still got it.

Here's a fun bit of trivia from lead singer Neil Tennant. Back in the day, when the band was climbing the charts with hits like West End Girls, Tennant found himself on an overnight flight seated next to an attractive young man with blonde hair. The two shared a few drinks and chatted. Fast forward to the next morning, when Tennant woke up in a strange hotel room in bed next to George Micheal.

New Wave Wednesday: Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money), by Pet Shop Boys (music video)

"I've got the brains, you've got the looks, let's make lots of money."

That has to be one of the best lines in pop music ever and it comes courtesy of the musical genius known as Pet Shop Boys in their 1985 hit Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money). (The song was actually released twice, in '85 and again in '86.)

The song didn't make it as big as West End Girls on the U.S. pop charts, which I never understood. This song really expresses the angst and cynicism of younger generation during the greed-obsessed, self-absorbed yuppie (young urban professional) generation of the 80's in a way that few pop songs did.
