I know, I know. I haven't posted a Cool Site of the Week in months. It's probably because there so much on the web that is just a rehash of what's come before. This time I think I've found something truly cool, with the help of the guys over at Queerty (Hat tip.)
You've seen hundreds of It Gets Better videos and have heard so much about the effects of bullying on kids in school, at home, in the neighborhood and everywhere else. Most are focused on the kids that endure the bullying, their parents, teachers and others in their lives who may be able to step in and help. Most of the messages are something like, "Yeah, it sucks, but just wait a few years and everything will be okay." It's a worthwhile message, but it doesn't address what's happening right now.
Now there's a site and a media campaign directed at those who are most likely to be bullies: straight guys. Straight But Not Narrow is a site that encourages guys to talk to other guys about guys who like guys in a way that doesn't use words like fag, faggot, homo, and all the others we're too familiar with. Whether or not it will catch on like Dan Savage's It Gets Better Campaign remains to be seen, but it's well worth the effort.
Glee's Cory Monteith (Finn) stars in the this video encouraging gay kids to "Just be you.... cause that's good enough for us."
