How GLEE's "Teenage Dream" Won Me Back (video)

Little Gay Kurt from Fox's GLEE
I was at work the other night when GLEE aired, so I only got to see a little of it on the TV in the break room. I really thought they had jumped the shark with the Rocky Horror episode and had all but given up on the show.

They always manage to suck me back in (no pun intended, well maybe a little) when they do stories about Little Gay Kurt. His dad is way cool and supportive. His crush on Finn was explored with all the sensitivity and heartache that we are all too familiar with from back in the day.

While I'm not a "huge" fan of Katy Perry, I do like some of her stuff. Teenage Dream is a cute song that pays homage to the innocence of first love. This all-male version takes cute and turns it into smokin' hot. The look on Little Gay Kurt's face as he was serenaded by the object of his boy-crush was priceless.

There had been a lot of hype in the lead up to this week's episode about LGK having his first m2m kiss in this episode and we all assumed it would be the hot boy in the blazer (sorry, I missed his name), but it turns out the kiss came instead from Jock Bully, who LGK and Hot Boy in Blazer help to come out.

It may be a little cliche to say that the most homophobic among us have the most to hide, but it's awesome to see it explored and played out on a hit family show.

  1. I pretty much despise Katy Perry's music (except the Vegas song). So it is really admitting something that I instantly iTuned "Teenage Dream"-- the Glee Version as soon as it was sung.

  2. I'm so glad you posted this. I watched it and thought it was awesome. But the next day, I thought about it and realized it was Network T.V. I was amazed they aired it, but more amazed how moved I was at the kiss, because I could so feel the Jock Bully's pain. I thought it pretty heavy for a prime time teenage-type show. Rock On Reverend Steve!!

  3. Thanks for your comments! I'm so on the fence about Glee sometimes, but now and then they knock it out of the park. BTW has that chick squeezed out that baby yet? It's been like 2 years already.
