CNN correspondent Soledad O'Brien's "In America" series returns on July 24th with "Gay in America: Gary and Tony Have a Baby", which documents the journey of a gay male couple who decide to become fathers via surrogacy.
Kudos to O'Brien and to CNN for including our issues in this award-winning series. I hope that the documentary explores not only the opposition to gay parenting from our Bible-thumping critics, but also from within our own community. We all know people who came out late in life, after marriage and kids, but many LGBT people don't understand why any of us would want to be parents outside of that context. Gay parents often feel ostracized by both the straight and queer communities when what they need most is our support..
