You may be familiar with this song from the remake by Shiny Toy Guns, featured in the TV ad for the Lincoln MKZ, but the original was released in January 1983 by German singer Peter Schilling with the vocals done in German. The song went to #1 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Schilling released an English version in September '83 that went to #1 in Canada, but topped out at #14 on the Billboard Charts in the U.S.
The song was inspired by David Bowie's 1969 hit "Space Oddity" which tells the story of an astronaut called Major Tom contemplating his fate after an accident in space.
