The trio of Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland only lasted from 1977-83 before pursuing solo careers, but they definitely left their mark with a string of hits, including this one that peaked at #11 in the US Hot 100.

Image via WikipediaAll these years later it's hard to believe that rain forest activist Sting was ever this cool, but back in 1981, nobody had ever heard anything like the mix of Jamaican Ska, jazz and techno-pop that the Police were producing. The bass riffs alone in "Spirits in the Material World", from the 1981 album "Ghost in the Machine", made it an instant rock classic.
