You may or may not know it, but the LGBT community is currently engaged in a national boycott of retail giants Target and Best Buy over their financial support of homophobic Minnesota Republican candidate for governor, Tom Emmers. The New York Daily News reported about Target a couple of weeks ago:
In the wake of the company's decision to donate $150,000 to a right-wing conservative's political campaign, former Target shoppers across the country are calling for a nation-wide boycott.
And the movement to protest the super-saver store is gaining buzz — and traction — on Facebook and Twitter, as a petition threatening a boycott of Target rebounds across the Internet.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled earlier this year that corporations have the same legal standing as people and can legally donate as much money as they want to political campaigns, effectively killing campaign finance reform. LGBT rights groups have called on Target to make amends by donating to LGBT rights causes. Target has said they won't do so.
The groups TargetBoycott.org and MoveOn.org have put together this viral video of this protest that took place on Monday. Watch and learn. This is how you stage a direct action protest. Go here to sign the boycott pledge and sign the petition to Target CEO Greg Steinhafel.
