Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize

The big news story today is the announcement that President Obama has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize just nine months into his term. Other presidents have won the prize, usually after they are well into there presidency, sometimes years afterward. Teddy Roosevelt in 1906, Woodrow Wilson in 1919 and Jimmy Carter in 2002.

Talking heads on the morning news shows today are saying that the Nobel Prize committee is not so much rewarding Obama's accomplishments (because there aren't any yet) as they are giving him a vote of confidence. When the president toured Europe earlier this year, he was greeting like a rock star. Enthusiastic crowds turned out in numbers not seen since JFK. Apparently the Nobel Peace Prize, like Homecoming King, is just a big, fancy popularity contest.

  1. WTF? WTF? WTF? Incredible! My 1st thought was, "It's not April Fools Day?". My second thought was, "Is this an "Onion" prank?"
