GetEqual Virginia Needs Couples for Valentine's Day Event in Norfolk

GetEqual and Marriage Equality USA have announced a joint nationwide effort to promote Freedom to Marry Month and they need your help. The two LGBT rights groups are looking for same-sex couples in states that bat same-sex marriage to show up at their courthouses on Valentine's Day to request marriage licenses.

GetEqual Virginia has posted the following announcement on their FaceBook event page:
We need LGBT couples/friends to meet at the Norfolk Clerk of Courts office and ask for a marriage license. Doesn’t matter if you aren’t a couple, but we need same-sex pairs to approach the desk and ask for a marriage license. Straight couples are welcome to show support.

We will organize outside and go into the office together and stand in line and wait our turn to go up to the counter. Just like on the Arc, we will go 2 by 2 up to the counter and ask for a license. We will be rejected of course, but our point will be made. This is a non-violent rally.

Feel free to bring signs, but they cannot be taken into the office.

Monday, February 14 · 1:00pm - 4:00pm Norfolk Clerk of Court Office 100 St. Paul's Blvd. Norfolk, VA
