Janet Mock was born as Charles Mock in Honolulu, Hawaii. In this new video for the It Gets Better Project, Mock says she knew by the age of 4 that she was really a girl.
Motivated by the rash of LGBT youth suicides in the past year, she felt compelled to share her story of being subjected to relentless bullying in high school and how she persevered to win a college scholarship and become a successful writer at People.com.
